Cemberlitas Sutunu

A very good conserved column from the Roamn period.It is also close to Old Bazar and a lot of restaurants.

Good old Constantine bought this in and is another beautiful Byzantine piece. It is called the hooped column due to the bands around it which were for reinforcing after it was damaged in a storm. It was topped with a statue of the emperor dressed as Apollo. It would have been great if this still remained. Not much info about this in the area and had to research what it was about. Its a little underwhelming to look at but is an essential part of the history of Istanbul. Have a look when you go to visit the Grand Bazaar.

This is an impressive Byzantine column located near to the Grand Bazar in Istanbul. It lacks the original statue of Constantine sadly. Worth stopping off to look at if in the area and like Byzantine history.

A monumental column built in honor of the Roman emperor Constantine. Metal circles on it were added much later by the Ottomans to strengthen its resistance. It is not a "not to be missed" landmark, not being very spectacular.

The column didn't use to be covered. Now it is covered and it isn't really worth a stop unless you are in this area and passing by.
