This mosque is right next to the spice market. You should cover your head if you're a woman and everyone should take their shoes off before entering. It's absolutely beautiful inside although it was quite crowded on the day I visited. Despite the crowd, there was no wait to get in the way there was at some of the more famous mosques. I'm very glad I visited this one.

The mosque is a beautiful mosque, however it is currently undergoing some construction work and is frequently not open for visitors. Thus if time is scarce, it might be best to view some of the other nearby historic mosques in the city.

One of the oldest Mosque close to Eminonu Square. I found that the stairs were very steep and high. Inside it’s beautiful with the hanging light chandelier and big dome.

This is the very first site that we visited Istanbul during our visit. Since we stayed in Kadikoy, and took the ferry across to the European side, Eminonu was the destination port, and the New Mosque was the first thing that was in front of us. An okay site to visit and immerse on Istanbul beauty, just as a reference later on to realize how much better Hagya Sofia was later on the day. The mosque was close to the Spice Bazaar, so a natural path would find us there next, and then walked our way to Sultanahmet square.

Less crowded than The Blue Mosque or Hagia Sophia The New Mosque (Yeni Camii) is visible from nearly every part of Istanbul thanks to a favorable location on the Golden Horn at the southern end of the Galata Bridge. Featuring 66 domes and semi domes in a pyramidal arrangement the Mosque was originally ordered for construction by Safiye Sultan, who was the wife of the then Sultan.
