Hagia Triada Church

This was a very peaceful place. You have to access it using a side street, and sometimes the doors will be locked during opening hours, however a custodian will likely be nearby who can grant you entry. Once inside you can look at the beautiful church, the first Orthodox church allowed to be built with a dome since the conquest of the city in 1453. It is a very tranquil place and a good place to just sit and be at peace.

This church is so beautiful and a lovely surprise to stumble across in Istanbul. The church gardens are equally as beautiful and tranquil as the church itself

The Hagia Triada (translated as Holy Trinity) is in fact a Greek Orthodox church in Istanbul. It is an old building and more important, the greek community is still using their church. It was once a Greek Orthodox cemetery and hospital and later it was destroyed and a church was built. It is told that the Hagia Triada was the first domed Christian church that was allowed to be built in Istanbul after the Fall of Constantinople. I was first walking in Taksim square that I saw the building. First I thought it might be a mosque but then I found out that it was a church, and then, when I tried to collect more information, I got it: it is a Greek church. I told myself: a Greek church in Istanbul! I should visit that.

The most amazing place to visit. An ancient Greek Church is about seconds from Taksim Square The church is beautiful , huge and clean. However, we didn't find any visitors apart from myself. The attendant at the church looked to be priest. He looked very smart in his long black rob. He seemed like a nice man of God.

Beautiful old Greek Orthodox church. Good place to rest and pray during a busy day in Istanbul. I enjoyed the Christian historical art and peaceful setting.
