About
Located in Tophane, the Kilic Ali Pasa Mosque was commissioned by the Ottoman chief admiral, Kilic Ali Pasa, and built by the architect Sinan in 1580. Designed as an entire mosque-complex (Turkish: kulliye) there is the mosque itself, a madrassa, a tomb, a public fountain, a school and a hamam. The mosque’s original plans are one of the rare documents to survive intact from the 16th century and demonstrate how Sinan worked to have the mosque resemble the Hagia Sophia.

Waza28 This beautiful Mosque is located in the Beyoglu area in Istanbul. The Mosque has a graveyard with the tombs. You can get the Metro to Tophane T1 which stops right opposite the Mosque.
Marco_Battuta The architecture is just breath taking. Might not be as well known as the other big name mosques in Istanbul, but still worth a visit.
jetsetterphoto This is one of my favorite mosques in the city. It is beutifully renovated and a pleasure to see the European and Oriental architecture and the majesty of the Ottoman times. There is a Hamam around the corner which is part of the complex. There is a big construction around for the cruiseships so most of the sea wall is blocked but still worth a visit. You can then head to Karakoy for drinks. Also do not miss the water fountain just beside the mosque. Cool to ser such an impressive water fountain.
