233Pity that this majestic building is closed as it looks amazing and interesting. Funnily enough they were finishing to close the outside of the building as we were cruising in front of it. Something to come back for in future for sure!
At the beginning of September 2021 it is still closed for renovation. However the back side of the terminal, there is excavation part of (perhaps) Byzantine-era ancient city! Unfortunately the site is not possible to visit. However the excavation site can be viewed from the brigde in Tibbiye Caddesi. It is quite big excavation site!
When I saw it for the first time from afar, I fell in love with Haydarpaşa Terminal. I was on a boat trip to the Princes' islands via Kadıköy. The Terminal disappeared in brown clouds of smoke from some vapurlar. Ever since I have wanted to visit it. In the February of this year I finally succeeded in doing so!! The station is enormous. It was being renovated, and I am still pleased about the very fact. It is said that already in 2019 trains will leave from here again, and that will be great. But what did I see when I was there? The elegant facade of the complex. The rails and the platforms. It all seemed a bit chaotic because it was under repair but I was happy.
The majestic building is closed for (hopefully) restoration. Parts of the area is closed of for archeological excavations(?). A strange walk along a narrow path surrounded by high corrugated walls where you get glimpses of boxes filled with fragments and carefully dug up ground.
The station is not working. It was built in 1908 and it connected Istanbul with the Asian cities of Turkey. It is not open. It has a grandiose architecture. The empire was on decadence when it was built. I found it by accident while visiting a friend in the Asian side. Area is nice and calm.
